I wrote this poem a while ago, it’s just some reflection on the Christian life and how we so often forget who’s arms are holding us close.
24 hours later, 24,000 tears.
Will all this be remembered in 24 years?
I hate how it affects me-
pushed to the max, so-
please can I fly free?
More yelling, more beating each other-
with words, falling from our un-
thinking brains, we utter.
Syllables screamed.
Can anyone explain?
What happened when we dreamed?
It’s fallen all around us. Ashes.
From a burning home -
As it smashes.
Flying ashes.
Hysterically sobbing -
To a God we can’t hear,
While our hearts, sore and throbbing,
Shed another tear.
But we’ve forgotten,
We simply want out.
Our trust has gone rotten,
We just want the quick fix,
The just add water mix.
Can we reach deep enough-
To remember when it
Wasn’t quite so tough?
When we knew where we were,
Was where we were supposed to stay-
Tucked away
In his unfailing love.
We’ve forgotten he’s still there,
Real as ever fighting for-
Our attention. Oh, what a pair.
His grace, our lies.
We’re human, he’s wise.
Can we remember to sit-
Back and live in his love?
When were at the end of our wit.
Ready to quit-
And let go.
His love is still a steady flow.
